Play-to-earn (P2E) games compensate players for their time and effort invested in the game, something that the majority of conventional video games do not accomplish. Ultimately, by participating and facilitating interactions for other players, players are the ones that develop content for the game.
The concept is still the same, even though many games now use the terms "play and earn" or "web3" instead of "own game items" (NFTs) and "earn" while playing in some way. These two items can occasionally be the same. Not always.
All P2E games, however, provide a means for players to earn rewards for their in-game activities. While some P2E games can be played for free, others demand an initial commitment. However, the world of blockchain gaming has something to offer everyone, regardless of their interests. Not only do a lot of games remain unfinished, but they also cover a wide spectrum of genres, including strategy games that span the galaxy, FPS, mobile, FPS, MMOs, and more! The Sandbox
The Sandbox is an interconnected world of unique game experiences. With land plots of varying sizes, each land owner can build their own creations using a visual game builder. The Sandbox is still in alpha testing, but if you’re interested in play-to-earn games, this should definitely be on your radar.
Alien Worlds
Alien Worlds is a play to earn game built on the WAX blockchain. It features a universe of six worlds, each with 500 land plots. Every plot is player owned and represented by an NFT. Players can earn Trilium in-game, transfer it to Binance Smart Chain, and earn more Trilium through a staking system. Alien Worlds features click to earn mining, and a player-run DAO system for each individual planet who chooses how to distribute their daily allotment of TLM tokens.
Gods Unchained
Gods Unchained is a collectible, fantasy, and trading card game built on the Ethereum network. It’s free to play, easy to get started, and offers play-to-earn opportunities right out of the gate.
Splinterlands
Splinterlands is a play-to-earn trading card game that plays in a browser. It started on the Steem blockchain as Steemmonsters but eventually switched to the Hive blockchain. Thanks to cross-chain functionality, cards and tokens can also be traded on the Ethereum blockchain and on Wax. Splinterlands now has a governance token called SPS.
Phantom Galaxies
Phantom Galaxies is a space-based RPG featuring an ongoing storyline and first person combat in spaceships and mechs. It is currently in closed beta (though access can be acquired with a $5 NFT) with an open beta expected later this year. Phantom Galaxies includes the voice-acting and high quality graphics you would expect from a AAA game.
